How do I set up a password or PIN on my phone?

Use Screen lock to protect your personal information as well as preventing others from using your phone without your permission.

To set up screen lock on your phone, open the Main Menu from the Launcher bar and select Settings > Location & security > Set up screen lock. Choose the type of screen lock you want to add and select Next or Continue to add it.

How do I back up my data?

When you update your phone's software, or when you send your phone off for repair, you should back up your phone's data to avoid losing any information or applications from your phone.

When you first switch on your phone, you will be given the option to back up your phone’s data and settings to the primary Google account that you use (i.e. the one you log in with during the first-time setup process).

You can also switch on data backup in your phone's settings. To switch on data backup, open the Main Menu from the Launcher bar and select Settings > Privacy > Back up my data.

If you have selected to back up your data using your Google account, your settings should automatically be reapplied to your phone once you sign in to this account on the device. Your applications should also be backed up, though if you find that any of these do not appear after a software update, you can re-download these from the My Apps section of Market. Media files will be automatically saved to your SD card while Email and Contacts information will not be affected.

However, updating your phone's software may mean that your SMS messages will be deleted from your phone. At present, Android does not offer a text backup service although there are a number of applications available through Market that allow you to do this.

How do I reset my phone?

Resetting your phone will clear it of any personal information including Contacts details, applications and settings. It will not affect any information stored on your phone's memory card.

To reset your phone, open the Main Menu from the Launcher bar and select Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset. Your phone will be reset - leave it for a few minutes. It will restart automatically.

If you are sending your phone for service or repair, or if you intend to wipe all of your data from the phone, it is recommended that you log out of Facebook prior to resetting your phone.
